Prince Ebrahim unveils US$5B ‘Mansa Sansang’ City Project in LRR

Spanning 44.2 square kilometers, this ambitious project, eight times the size of the capital city of Banjul is valued at $5 billion and is set to become a major economic, financial, commercial, cultural and infrastructural hub for the nation.The Mansa Sansang project aims to be the most environmentally friendly net-zero city in Africa, and will feature a state-of-the-art airport, seaport, logistics and industrial districts, a financial, commercial and retail districts, as well as education, health, entertainment, administrative district as well as a modern residential area. The residential district will include two key housing sectors; one dedicated to affordable housing with 10,000 homes and another for high- and middle-class residences, also comprising 1,000 homes. The city project has earmarked an extra 25 Km Square for agriculture venture for city consumption.A centerpiece of Mansa Sansang is the strategically located Airport (Mansa Koto Airport), positioned to be the most central to all major regional airports, including Banjul and Dakar. The airport will house three distinct terminals; a private jet terminal; an International Terminal and a Local and Regional Terminals; and Cargo Terminals. In addition to its aviation facilities, the city will mark a significant step forward for The Gambia’s aerospace industry. Through a landmark agreement with Turkish aircraft manufacturer, Mansa Sansang will host the country’s first aircraft manufacturing plant and Africa's first Aviation and Aerospace University. Moreover, a specialised aviation school will offer Gambians training in various aeronautical skills including pilots, engineers, aviation management experts etc.The seaport (Sankuleh Seaport), another vital part of the development, is designed to become the leading and highly competitive and strategically located, enhancing The Gambia's role in regional and global trade. The city will also feature the biggest National Arena and Conference Centre, making it a premier destination for large scale events, national gatherings, and international conferences, further boosting its status as a center for economic, political, and cultural activities.Mansa Sansang will also include a financial center that will serve as a hub for numerous international financial transactions, attracting global banks, investment firms, and other financial institutions. This will position the city as a major player in the region’s financial landscape. Additionally, the development will feature a government district, which will house key governmental institutions and agencies, ensuring that Mansa Sansang becomes not only an economic hub but also a central location for political and administrative activities in The Gambia.With Mansa Sansang inauguration scheduled for January 2025, H.R.H. Prince Ebrahim Sanyang is setting the stage for transformative growth in The Gambia, creating new opportunities for investment, trade, and job creation. This visionary city is poised to become a beacon of progress, innovation, and development, establishing new standards in urban planning and infrastructure for the country.
