Govt faces motion of no-confidence over rising poverty, living costs
Three opposition parties on Wednesday tabled a no-confidence motion in the parliament against the four-party alliance government led by conservative Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) over the deepening poverty and rising living cost in the country. Leaders of the main opposition the Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP), Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) and Vihreä liitto (Finnish Green League) - filed the interpellation asking the government to explain the reasons behind increasing poverty and living cost hike. The parliamentary party leader of Vasemmistoliitto, Aino-Kaisa Pekonen initiated the interpellation, which accused the government of its failure to reduce the poverty and marginalisation in the country. Referring to a recent report of the Finnish Federation for Social Affairs and Health (Soste), the leaders of the opposition parties said that almost a million Finns are already at risk of poverty and social exclusion. The poverty crisis has been exacerbated particularly by the right-wing government's deep cuts to social security, they said. They also held the government responsible for its failure to grow the economy and pointed out that the unemployment and homelessness are increasing and at the same time bread lines are getting longer. The opposition parties leaders also accused the government of throwing the country into a very poor shape and demanded that the government either act now to alleviate the poverty crisis, or give space to more capable forces. The government led by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will respond to the interpellation in a plenary session within 15 days. After receiving the reply to the interpellation, the Parliament will hold a debate on the issue and proceed to a no-confidence motion against the government or a particular minister. Earlier on March 31, the opposition parties decided to bring a no-confidence motion in the parliament.

Hungary strengthens security of TurkStream pipeline over sabotage fears
The Hungarian government has ordered heightened security measures along the TurkStream gas pipeline infrastructure following indications of a planned sabotage attempt on its Serbian section, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Sunday, reported Xinhua. "Based on the information available to us, a sabotage action was being prepared on the Serbian section of the TurkStream pipeline supplying Hungary," Orban said in a video posted on his Facebook page, after convening an extraordinary meeting of the Defense Council. He added that the pipeline is operating normally, and no injuries have been reported. Orban underlined the strategic importance of the route, noting that "around 60 percent of Hungary's gas consumption is supplied through this pipeline," and announced reinforced military monitoring and protection along Hungary's section. "Hungary's energy security is not a game. We will defend our energy system, the secure supply of families, and our national interests," he said. He also thanked Serbian authorities for strengthening protection of the infrastructure and said Hungarian authorities are in continuous contact with their Serbian counterparts. According to Serbian officials, explosive devices and equipment suitable for detonation were discovered near critical gas infrastructure outside the town of Kanjiza, close to the Hungarian border. Serbian police and military units deployed drones, thermal imaging devices, tracking dogs and helicopters during the operation, while an investigation remains ongoing.

Easter celebrated across country amidst festivity, joy
The Easter celebrated on Sunday across the country amidst festivity and joy as elsewhere in the world. People were found to celebrate the festival with their family members and dearest ones and exchanged gifts and greeting cards. They wore new Easter clothes and lit bonfire on Saturday, the Easter eve. Bonfire originated from an old belief of turning the witches aside. All the government, semi-government and private offices including bank remained closed from Friday to Monday and will resume on Tuesday. Many markets and shopping malls remain open for limited hours in separate schedules during the holidays while many remained closed. The business organisations decide their own opening hours as retail opening hours have been de-regulated during the recent years. Easter Sunday observed all over the country on the last day of the week as elsewhere the globe commemorating the religious believe of Christian community about Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead after his crucifixion. According to Christianity, Easter culminates the passion of Jesus which is preceded by the season of Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer and penance. Easter Day is celebrated in the Christian world as a festival marking Jesus rose from the dead and lives forever. Jesus had told his followers before his arrest that he would be crucified and on the third day he would rise from the dead. Sunday was the third day from the Good Friday.

2 Palestinian children killed in Gaza, West Bank
Two Palestinian children were killed on Tuesday in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as tensions with Israel continue to escalate, reported Xinhua. Palestinian medical sources told Xinhua that 12-year-old Youssef Asaliya was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip. His body was transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital in western Gaza City. Local sources and eyewitnesses also reported additional Israeli airstrikes east of the Gaza Strip, and the arrest of two Palestinian fishermen fishing off the coast. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strike in a statement, stating that troops operating in the northern Gaza Strip "identified a terrorist who crossed the Yellow Line and approached the troops, posing an imminent threat to their safety." The military said it "eliminated the terrorist in order to remove the threat." Gaza-based health authorities said on Monday that Israel had killed 603 people and injured 1,618 others in the Gaza Strip since a ceasefire took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the conflict on Oct. 7, 2023, to 72,063, with 171,726 others injured. In the West Bank, Palestinian security sources reported that one child was killed and another seriously injured due to the explosion of previously unexploded ordnance left behind by the Israeli army in the central Jordan Valley. The IDF confirmed soldiers were dispatched to the area following a report of three Palestinians injured while "playing with unexploded ordnance." The violence coincided with renewed international criticism of Israeli settlement policy. Referring to Israel's recent approval of a plan to register West Bank land as state property, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East Philippe Lazzarini on Tuesday warned that "accelerating the dispossession of Palestinians & expanding Israeli settlements will do nothing to bring long-needed stability & peace to the region." He added that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on Israel to "reverse these measures", urging all parties to "preserve the only path to lasting peace, a negotiated two-State solution in line with international law." Israel seized control of the West Bank after the 1967 war and has established settlements there, a move deemed illegal by the international community.
