Celebrate African Americans’ role in U.S. military
“E Pluribus Unum” is a Latin phrase meaning “out of many, one.” This quotation from 1776, suggested by a committee of our founders (John Adams, Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson), is on the Great Seal of the United States, and is also on much of our currency, to include our coinage and the dollar bill. It was also the nation’s de facto motto until July 30, 1956, when President Eisenhower signed into law the new motto - “In God We Trust.” Among other aspects, it signifies the melting pot ideal of America - that diverse religions, races, cultures and states can set aside differences to form a “more perfect union.”We are in the middle of Black History Month, although you’d likely not be aware of this based on the actions of the Trump administration to de-emphasize it.The post Celebrate African Americans’ role in U.S. military appeared first on The Leavenworth Times.
