Bata bukini, wanapatikana kwenye familia moja na bata wa kawaida,” alisema Rashid.Bata bukini ni wakubwa kwa kimo, rangi yao ni nyeupe au kijivu na wengine wana mabaka meupe na meusi. Aidha wao hushamiri vyema katika maeneo yenye baridi kali hususan nyanda za juu.“Nchini Kenya, bata bukini hufugwa kwa wingi katika ukanda wa Bonde la Ufa na eneo la Kati. Kwa kuwa hali ya anga huku Gusii ni sawia na maeneo hayo, niliamua kuwazamia pia,” Rashid anaeleza.Yeye ni mhandisi kitaaluma. Hamu yake ya ufugaji aliipata alipokuwa katika shule ya upili.Kwa wakati huo, alikuwa na bata bukini wachache tu, ambao alikuwa amewaachia wazazi wake wamtunzie.Alipomaliza masomo yake, alipanua mradi wake na kuwa na bata bukini zaidi ya 100.Alipata kibarua jijini Nairobi na hilo likamlazimu awaachie mtu kibarua cha kumtunzia ndege hao.Lakini aliporejea nyumbani wakati wa likizo yake, alipata kuwa mradi wake ulikuwa unadidimia.Alichukua hatua ambayo ni nadra kwa wengi kuichukua; kuachana na kazi hiyo na kurejea kijijini Keboba ili kuufufua mradi wake.Kufikia sasa, Rashid ana ndege mbali mbali nyumbani kwao. Yeyote anapoingilia mazingira yao na kuwachokoza ama kuiba mayai hana budi kukabiliana nao.“Huweka ulinzi mkali na kuwafurusha wageni wapya wanaozuru makazi yao, na wakati wa kuangua dume ndio huyalinda mayai,” anasema.Ingawa malezi yao ni kama kuku wa kawaida, mayai huangua baada ya wiki tatu takriban siku 21 tangu wayatamie mayai.Bata bukini hutaga kati ya mayai 6-8 kutegemea na mazingira wanamokulia na utulivu wa akili wanaopata.
