Minority demands detailed breakdown of GHS58m spent on Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign
The Minority in Parliament is demanding a detailed, line-by-line account of the reported GH¢58 million spent on Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.The demand follows Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams’ appearance before Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth and Sports on Thursday, where he briefed lawmakers on the government’s expenditure for the Black Stars’ campaign.The Minority wants the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ghana Football Association and other relevant institutions to account for expenditure on flights, accommodation, transportation, laundry, training camps, logistics, catering, security, tickets and other operational costs.Ranking Member of the Youth and Sports Committee, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, said explanations provided by the Minister on player appearance fees, honoraria and per diems did not address the wider operational expenditure.“Where is the detailed breakdown of the expenditure on flights, accommodation, internal transportation, laundry, training camps, logistics, catering, security, tickets and other operational expenses?” Assafuah asked.He cited figures in a reported Ghana Football Association draft budget which allocated US$15,000 for laundry and US$38,000 for internal transportation, and demanded details of what was actually spent.“What was actually spent?
