A week of storms: Monsoon, typhoons leave trail of destruction in the Philippines

Tropical Depression Luis made landfall in Isabela and weakened into a low-pressure area on Aug. 3, while Tropical Storm Maymay made landfall in Ilocos Sur on Aug. 6 before dissipating the next day. It enhanced the southwest monsoon, drenching many parts of the country over the weekend.
