Afghanistan - Severe weather and floods, update (IFRC, NOAA-CPC) (ECHO Daily Flash of 9 April 2026)

Country: Afghanistan Source: European Commission's Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Since March, heavy rainfall has been affecting Afghanistan, causing several severe incidents, floods and landslides, with fatalities and widespread damage. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), as of 8 April, reports that since 26 March, 127 people died, 198 were injured, and eight people are still missing. More than 38 000 individuals are affected, as 5 500 houses have been completely or partially damaged. Additionally, 7 504 hectares (37 519 jeribs) of agricultural land were damaged, and more than 1 800 livestock were killed. Over the next 48 hours more rainfall is in the forecast for the North of Afghanistan.
