THREE-DAY WEEKEND, WITH LABOR DAY HOLIDAY ON MONDAY

Governor Pulumataala Ae Ae Jr has declared Monday, September 7 Labor Day, which is also a federal holiday, with all ASG offices closed. Federal offices here and in the US are also closed for the special day to honor workers throughout the nation. Labor Day honors the dedication and resilience of the hard-working men and women who serve as the backbone of our territory. This day is an opportunity to pay tribute to the workforce that has built the foundation of our proud community, and to those who carry forward the enduring legacy of improving our way of life. May you all be blessed. The Governor and I wish you all a safe and meaningful Labor Day Holiday, the Lt. Governor said in a release issued this week. President Donald Trump did not issue a stand alone official White House Proclamation or formal address specifically dedicated to Labor Day during the week of the holiday in September 2026; instead focusing his public remarks and briefings around midterm election campaign preparations and foreign policy. Writing on Truth Social ahead of the holiday week, Trump stated that keeping businesses closed for working holidays harms the country financially. Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata released the following for Labor Day 2026: “Labor Day is a federal holiday in honor of you and all your work in your jobs, where you faithfully serve your families, and in doing so, make our communities better, and keep our economy moving. Your job is important! Labor Day is a nationwide thank you for your entire year of dedication and efforts, as well as a well-deserved day of rest and relaxation with family or friends. Our local economy is influenced by the larger U.S. economy and decisions in Washington that can affect our small businesses, our fishing, or the costs of the imports we need, policies that impact family budgets. I will keep focused to ensure that American Samoa is treated fairly in legislation. May God bless your diligence, your health, your families and faith in the year ahead. Happy Labor Day!” With Monday a holiday all government offices will be closed as well as some in the private sector. The U.S. Post Office will also be closed on Monday, as well as all federal offices in the territory. In observance of the Labor Day holiday, Samoa News will not publish on Monday.
