Reliefweb english environment top

Country: Nepal Source: Pacific Disaster Center Please refer to the attached file. Snapshot of Key Concerns Severity: A glacial collapse on the Tibet side of the border of Nepal sent a catastrophic surge down the Lhende Khola into the Bhote Koshi River. The collapse was large enough to register seismically with USGS and trigger a massive flood downstream in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Chitwan districts. Timing: Morning of August 26, 2026, floodwaters traveled down the Trishuli River as far as Mugling before beginning to recede. Damage spans the corridor from Timure through Syabrubesi, Betrawati, and Trishuli Bazaar. Key Concerns: Impacted communities are in extremely remote, difficult-to-access areas. Numerous roads and bridges have been washed out, and other critical infrastructure including communications and hydropower have been severly damaged according to PDC’s AI for Humanity. This has constrained search and rescue efforts. Helicopters are the primary means of access, and adverse weather intermittently grounded flights.
