Australie - Un adolescent nage quatre heures pour faire sauver sa famille perdue en mer

Un adolescent de 13 ans a nagé quatre kilomètres en mer jusqu'à la côte pour alerter les secours, pendant que sa mère et ses frère et soeur dérivaient au large de l'Australie, a rapporté lundi la police. Dans un communiqué, la police d'Australie-Occidentale explique avoir été alertée vendredi soir concernant un groupe de trois personnes, une femme et deux enfants, emportés au large de Quindalup (sud-ouest) lors d'une sortie paddle et kayak. "Un garçon de 13 ans, qui est un membre de la famille et était avec le groupe, a alerté les autorités après avoir décidé de retourner sur le rivage malgré une luminosité déclinante et des conditions difficiles. Il a ramé sur une courte distance avant que son kayak ne prenne l'eau, puis a nagé approximativement quatre kilomètres avant d'atteindre la terre ferme", a détaillé la même source. "Il se souvient d'avoir nagé les deux premières heures avec un gilet de sauvetage", a retracé auprès du média public ABC Paul Bresland, sauveteur en mer. "Et ce brave gars s'est dit qu'il n'allait pas y arriver avec le gilet de sauvetage, donc il l'a abandonné et a nagé les deux heures suivantes sans", a-t-il poursuivi. Son frère de 12 ans, sa soeur de 8 ans et sa mère de 47 ans ont été localisés aux alentours de 20H30 (09H30 GMT), accrochés à une planche de paddle, puis secourus par un bateau de sauveteurs en mer, détaille la police. "Les actes du garçon de 13 ans sont exceptionnels, sa détermination et son courage ont sauvé la vie de sa mère et de ses frère et soeur", a salué dans le communiqué James Bradley, un responsable de la police.
