Fuel shortage sends transport costs soaring

By Brenda Kayo The shortage of fuel has pushed petrol and diesel prices on the black market to as much as K20,000 per litre, while some minibus operators in Lilongwe have increased fares to cover rising operating costs. The official pump price is K5,619 per litre for petrol and K5,863 for diesel, but prices on the black market have risen sharply as motorists struggle to find fuel at filling stations.
