Countries: Bangladesh, Myanmar Source: World Food Programme Please refer to the attached file. SITUATION OVERVIEW • Bangladesh continues to face significant food security and nutrition challenges. According to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis, approximately 15.3 million people (15 percent of the analysed population) are experiencing acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 3 or above) between May and August 2026. The situation is projected to deteriorate further, with the estimated number of people facing acute food insecurity expected to increase to 18.1 million between September and December 2026. • Nutrition outcomes remain a major concern. According to the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) 2026, 26 percent of children under five are stunted and 11 percent are wasted, reflecting persistent chronic and acute undernutrition. In addition, the National Micronutrient and Micronutrient Intervention (MIMI) study found that around 40 percent of households suffer from significant micronutrient deficiencies, which continue to undermine health, cognitive development, and productivity. Addressing these challenges requires prudent and evidence-based policies, including the promotion of food fortification, improved dietary diversity, strengthened nutrition-sensitive social protection programmes, and enhanced access to nutritious foods for populations at risk of food insecurity and malnutrition.
