Lula chegou por volta de 20h25 do domingo, 15, no camarote da Prefeitura do Rio, onde já era esperado pelo prefeito da cidade, Eduardo Paes (PSD), e vários de seus ministros, para acompanhar a primeira noite de desfiles das escolas de samba do Grupo Especial.A primeira escola a cruzar a avenida foi a Acadêmicos de Niterói, com enredo em homenagem ao presidente.Lula deixou a Sapucaí por volta das 4h53 com acenos pela janela do carro a simpatizantes que chamavam por seu nome.O camarote reuniu o vice-presidente da República, Geraldo Alckmin, o ministro da Educação, Camilo Santana, o ministro da Saúde, Alexandre Padilha, o ministro de Minas e Energia, Alexandre Silveira, a ministra da Gestão e da Inovação em Serviços Públicos, Esther Dweck, a ministra de Relações Institucionais, Gleisi Hoffmann, o deputado federal Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ), a ministra da Igualdade Racial, Anielle Franco, e a ministra da Cultura, Margareth Menezes.Também prestigiaram o desfile, a presidente da Petrobras, Magda Chambriard, e o presidente do Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES), Aloizio Mercadante.Todos se recusaram a dar declarações à imprensa.Lula também entrou e saiu no camarote sem dar entrevista.Circularam entre os convidados do presidente os atores Denise Fraga, Humberto Carrão, Silvero Pereira, Paulo Vieira e Elisa Lucinda, entre outros.O banqueiro André Esteves, fundador do BTG Pactual, também passou pelo camarote que recebeu o presidente.
