Magnitude: M 7.7 (BMKG / USGS). The earthquake was triggered by an upthrust fault mechanism (Flores Back Arc Thrust) at a shallow depth of 10–15 km. USGS estimates that up to 1.5 million people experienced strong shaking at intensity IV–V MMI across Flores Island to Sumbawa. Tsunami Potential & Detection: A tsunami early warning was temporarily activated by BMKG after sea-level rises were detected at 10 observation stations. The highest rise was recorded in Maurole, Ende, at 0.94 metres at 05:27 WIB. The tsunami early warning was officially lifted by BMKG at 07:30 WIB. Aftershocks: BMKG recorded at least 54 aftershocks up to 07:30 WIB, with the strongest reaching M 6.1. Earthquake Epicentre: Offshore at coordinates 8.41° S – 121.39° E, approximately 30 km northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.
