Nationalist MP Darren Carabott has strongly condemned a series of hateful Facebook comments urging him to commit suicide, reminding the public that politicians are human beings with families who suffer from such abuse. The comments appeared beneath a video explaining a PN electoral commitment. Carabott, who serves as the party's home affairs spokesman and is a candidate for the coming election, emphasised that while fierce political disagreement is a natural part of a democratic campaign, bullying and encouraging self-harm are entirely unacceptable. He also urged individuals harbouring that level of malice to seek professional help for their own well-being. His stance was backed by lawyer and philanthropist Sabine Agius Cabourdin, who has faced similar online abuse and works closely with mental health struggles through the FIDEM Foundation. In a poignant Facebook post, Agius Cabourdin, who was entrusted with overhauling the PN's finances stressed that advocating for someone's death crosses a dangerous line that transcends tribal politics, noting that the immense pressure of political campaigns takes a heavy, exhausting toll on candidates from all parties. She concluded her appeal for decency and humanity by honoring the memory of Karl Gouder, the former PN official who passed away tragically last year.
