Great Lakes, IL — Helenia Porter-Greer was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (E7) in the United States Marine Corps in a ceremony at MACG-48, Naval Base Great Lakes, Illinois, May 1, 2026. Porter-Greer is a graduate of Alofau Elementary School. She attended Fagaitua High School before moving to Hawaii and completing her 11th and 12th grades at Moanalua High School. Porter-Greer received her Associates of Arts (AA) from Kapiolani Community College and Bachelor of Science in Management from Post University. She returned home and served as the only Marine recruiter at the American Samoa Marine Contact Station from 2021 to 2024. In 2024, Porter-Greer moved to Great Lakes, IL where she currently serves as the Adjutant Chief at MACG-48. At her promotion ceremony, she was accompanied by families, friends, and her Marines. Porter-Greer is from the villages of Auasi and Amouli of Saole District. She dedicates this milestone to her parents, the late Mataava Marston Porter and Wilma Porter.
