South Africa urged to take action as the country’s gas reserves decline

As South Africa’s natural gas reserves face serious decline, the sector stands at a critical transition as it experiences the so-called ‘gas cliff’. Industrial Gas Users Association-South Africa (IGUA-SA) executive officer Jaco Human has warned that the industry is already experiencing the gas cliff, noting that supply from projects such as Inhassoro, Matola and the Zululand Energy Terminal (ZET), are unlikely to be available to South Africa by the middle of 2030.
