STORY: :: Hormuz Island, Iran / Released May 6, 2026 :: Iran says it shot down a reconnaissance drone over the Strait of Hormuz :: Analysts say the debris resembles parts of a U.S.-made MQ‐9 Reaper surveillance drone Reuters confirmed the location from terrain, port layout and constructions which matched corroborating media footage and file and satellite images. Coordinates of the port: 27.09129388217049, 56.4442018973673. The date of the footage could not be verified, but no older version of the video was found posted online before May 6. Wreckage seen in the footage matched file images of the external fuel tank of General Atomics MQ-9A ER Reaper. Arun Dawson, a PhD candidate in War Studies at the Freeman Air and Space Institute also told Reuters that the object shown in the video appears most consistent with the external fuel pod of a General Atomics MQ-9A ER Reaper (also known as Predator B) operated by the United States. Tehran has considered a U.S. peace proposal that sources said would formally end the conflict while leaving unresolved key U.S. demands that Iran suspend its nuclear program and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
