Country: Democratic Republic of the Congo Source: European Commission's Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations From 1 – 2 May, the town of Uvira in South Kivu province, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, was hit by heavy rainfall and ensuing floods, causing fatalities, displacement and damage. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) reported on 2 May that six people had died, four were missing, 414 had been displaced and a total of 79 000 were affected. Thirteen houses were completely destroyed, 56 were partially damaged and another 500 were flooded, while drinking‐water sources were also affected. Over the next 48 hours, moderate to locally heavy rain is forecast for the northern and central parts of the country, including South Kivu.
